Mount Eaton House has been restored and converted into 17 luxury apartments from a boarding school building, with Purcell Construction as both developer and contractor. When work started the building was in poor repair with the main staircase being supported by an ugly steel structure, several PVC windows and broken or missing cast iron decoration and down pipes. Now the central stair is fully restored, complete with all the original timber panelling. A modern porch was added to give the building a more suitable entrance. While most of the apartments are traditional, with the original panelling and solid timber floors, the high ceilings afforded the opportunity to provide a few apartments with double height living spaces, carved up by volumetric forms.
